Hello fellow deviants,

It has been an AWFUL long time since I last wrote, but I guess that's normal seeing as DA has taken a backseat in favour of Facebook, Cospix, ACP, and WorldCosplay. Recent Events and Katsucon

Whew, I haven't been on Deviantart in awhile... I suppose that's normal, a lot of deviants are no longer active :<

This winter break I cranked out two huge costumes, So-Ah and Mui from Bride of the Water God for my boyfriend and I before going on vacation. I finally went to Japan, it was a lovely lovely city, I don't even have the words to express how much I like the city. We lived in a small hostel right behind Sensouji, possibly busiest shrine in Tokyo @__@ we went during new years, badddd idea. xD  But I did get to spend a quality amount of time with my male best friend Hugh who studied abroad in Japan fora bout a year and Michi, a new york cosplayer that I've met at cons before that was also studying there. It has a great experience and I shall not rest until I go again. :)

Moving on, Katsucon. It will be busy, that's all I can say. Between changing into cosplays and having quality time with the boyfriend, somehow i will shove drinking and shopping and hanging out with friends in there... Anyway the schedule for Katsucon is as follows:

AnimeUSA 2013

Just came home from AnimeUSA 2013 :3

Honestly speaking, this was probably the most amazing convention experience I've ever had aside from the fact I caught a minor head cold. It was the perfect con, save for some very small incidences, the biggest being that my pink thigh highs for Tsukumo were ruined before I even wore them OTL

Breakdown:

THURSDAY
Arrived at the convention around 8 after a long ride with :iconallengale: and moved into the room with the help of my roommates and boyfriend. I had more luggage than usual this time, especially with the 3D gear in tow @___@ In total, 6 different pieces, 1 huge clothing bag, my hello kitty bag (gigantic thing that goes everywhere with me), 3 pieces of 3D maneuver gear, and Tsukumo's wig. It was quite a struggle, but we made it :)
Once inside and settled it was a cuddlefest with lots of ramen and catching up with some of my friends who were maids and hosts. It was overall an early night, we retired maybe around 12 or 1.

FRIDAY
Awoke around 9:30 and got dressed into Tsukumo :)

A weird stain was on my pink thigh highs so I tried to steam it out only to have the thigh highs completely BURN OTL so I had to wear my white Karakuri Burst thigh highs. Anyhow I went to the Dealer's room for a quick look around before going to Maid cafe for a bit and then to a shoot with Yenra photography. After that I changed into Ruby from RWBY before going for a shoot then host club where I karaoked for awhile.

An hour or so of that, before I went for frozen yogurt with a new cosplay buddy named Louixa, because I felt sick, upon returning to the convention I decided to walk it off with my cosplay brother :iconeminencerain: and we hit up artist alley and did some people watching. After 12, I went back to the room and crashed.

SATURDAY
I awoke around 8:30 to put all the host club boys into makeup for their photoshoot before sending them on their way. Then I got dressed into Karakuri Burst Rin, this outfit was rushed and not my best work but I really do love it, my Len is my cosplay bestie, Slightlysalted. Still felt like my throat was scratchy but I began the overdosage of cough drops again. (center one)

Our last roommate finally arrived but didn't have my number, luckily I was craving McDonalds so when we went there, he happened to be there. Our last roommate is photographer Gerardo F. whose photography is amazing. He came down for the sole reason to shoot with me, which was so flattering. He was super chill and we went off to shoot Karakuri for awhile. Immediately after, I was pulled away into another photoshoot session with Jane F. who was super encouraging and fun to work with.
Ah hour or so later, I got into Mikasa Ackerman along with her 3D gear for a shoot with Gerardo again.

We spent 2 hours shooting before I decided to hit up host club again to request my boyfriend Quinn Silver. A few friends and I, Jon, Morgan and Ms G, had expensive food and alcohol before going back to the room and changing into a casual Mikasa. Taking Gerardo who was in an antisocial mood, we went to the board game/card game panel and played a long 2 hour round of Cards Against Humanity with several other people. I met Kira Rin for the first time ever and she was very nice and looked great in her Levi costume. Afterwards we all got together and laughed over inside jokes before finally going back to the room where I had some ramen before going to bed.

SUNDAY
It was about 9:00 when the alarm went off but it took awhile to go and get dressed into Shizuku Mizutani from Tonari no Kaibutsu-kun. <img src="scontent-b-lga.xx.fbcdn.net/hp…" /> (photo by Alexandra Restrepo)
This was a collaborative effort with Louixa and we went to the artist alley and dealers room before heading to our shoot with Eminence Rain. After his shoot we went for another with our friend Jo. Both shoots had different feelings behind them, I really enjoyed both photographer's choice in location and positioning. Left the con around 3:30 and went for sushi with three cosplayer friends in the area.

This was a short break down, but I'm quite tired so no more writing for the night. I hope everyone that went to AnimeUSA had fun and if you haven't been, you're missing out! Good night!

Ellicott City Photoshoot

Whew! This weekend was indubitably the best weekend of my cosplay years so far! Wonderful times were had with a bunch of fellow cosplayers and equally wonderful photographers. This time, I brought my new Titania Asuna cosplay and my Inori dress; also brought my Kirito cosplay for Slightlysalted. The location was breathtakingly beautiful; the ruins of the once girl's school was simply perfect for all of the costumes that everyone brought. Here are two pictures,  one of the photographers and one of the cosplayers at this event, both pictures are taken by Fiery Fotography :)





I spent the night from friday to saturday at Slightlysalted's home, we also worked on her Sakizo Homme Opal cosplay from 10 to 12 the night before retiring to bed. ~___~; Honestly we finished it earlier than expected so  shouldn't be complaining xDD much fun with chest binding.

The following morning, Slightlysalted and I started out our day at 7:00 am, did our makeup, and packed for the shoot. Arrived nearing 9:00 and got packed into a car to go up the hill to the Patapsco Girl's Institute ruins. Once there everyone changed into costumes, signed in, conversed and got started. Slightlysalted wore her newly finished Homme Opal and I wore Inori.

First I shot with my friend Helen and her crew. After that, Jade Smile photography kidnapped me and after her, Dancing Squirrel, John T. Nelson, and Yenra took me under their wing. I got to meet and chat with Melvinopolis Cosplay and several other cosplayers that I admire. Around 12:30 I underdressed and got into Asuna while Slightlysalted wore Kirito. We were immediately stolen by Jade Smile for photos of our HUSBANDO and WAIFU costumes xD

We shot for a very very long time in Asuna and Kirito and the shoot ended at 3:45. Our last photo was a group shot by Fiery Fotography. We ended the day by chilling in Ellicott City's historical district and shopping at Matcha Cafe where I had a wonderful conversation in Japanese with the owner of the store. :3 All in all, a fun experience.

Hopefully I'll get more pictures back soon and new year, I shall see some of my deviantart friends there :)

Racism and Cosplay

Today I was browsing through facebook, just scrolling through my feed. Naturally, I can upon a site I've 'liked' and I saw a new cute profile picture. I clicked in to check out the page to see if there were any fun updates. The photos popped up first. Among the cute cosplay photos I saw one that looked very familiar. It was a photo of one of my cosplay friends who I've known for awhile. She is african american. You can tell where that leads.

The poster was an administrator of the page, she wrote:
"I dont want to say that this cosplayer is ugly .. But i just wanna hear your opinion about this picture."

BOOM. Right there she already stated her opinion: the cosplayer is ugly. That influenced the ENTIRE thread. Some decent people went ahead and said she looked fine, great even, it doesn't matter if she's not the right skin tone for the character, she portrays her just fine. Others were however, incredibly rude. Comments like "She looks like a man" and "WTF is that (character name)??" came up left and right.

I must say I am VERY disappointed in the cosplay and cosplay appreciation community. Some of the posters weren't even cosplayers, how DARE they judge the worth of someone who has put time and energy into bringing a beloved character to life. Some people just can't seem to grasp that cosplay is not a beauty pageant, people are not cosplaying to be judged. They're trying to HAVE FUN. Being criticised for not being the right race or size for a character is NOT ACCEPTABLE. These rude people are ruining the experience of fun that cosplayers are trying to have with their own selfish ideas.

If someone doesn't have anything nice to say, they need to keep it to themselves. I am disgusted with the treatment of cosplayers who aren't the "right colour" for a cosplay. People need to start growing up and accepting that people are all different and cosplay is about personal enjoyment. The world isn't a catwalk. Judge someone only if you're prepared to be judged.
